Solar Panel Cleaning and Coating Systems

Choose a solar panel cleaning and coating system that fits your installation, maintenance plan and service budget. Compare SolarClean for surface cleaning, SolarRestore for annual protection and maintenance, and SolarProtect for longer-term nanoceramic protection.

For solar installers, cleaning contractors and maintenance teams, our Good, Better, Best approach provides three clear service options. SolarSink is available separately for thermal-management projects.

Which solar panel product fits your project?

Start with the job you need to do: clean the surface, add a coating, maintain existing protection, or address thermal management. SolarClean, SolarRestore and SolarProtect form our three service levels. SolarSink addresses a separate thermal-management need.

SolarClean

Surface cleaning and coating preparation

Choose SolarClean (ECS 101) for routine cleaning or to prepare surfaces before coating. SolarClean is the cleaning step in all three Good, Better and Best service levels.

SolarRestore

Annual protection and coating maintenance

SolarRestore (ECS 5001) provides the protective treatment in Good and the annual maintenance treatment over SolarProtect in Best.

SolarProtect

Longer-term surface protection

SolarProtect (ECS 5003) provides the longer-term protective coating in Better and Best. Best adds annual maintenance with SolarClean and SolarRestore.

SolarSink

Thermal management

SolarSink is a separate heat-diffusion coating. If thermal management is your priority, contact us to discuss project suitability and application requirements.

Good: SolarClean + SolarRestore

Cleaning Plus Nanoceramic Protection

Step 1: Clean with SolarClean (ECS 101), rinse thoroughly and allow the surface to dry.

Step 2: Apply SolarRestore (ECS 5001) according to its application instructions for annual nanoceramic protection.

Choose Good for: cleaning plus a protective surface treatment, with annual renewal of SolarRestore as part of ongoing care.

Follow the product-specific preparation and curing instructions. Allow 5 to 7 days after application before washing again.

Better: SolarClean + SolarProtect

Cleaning Plus Longer-Term Protective Coating

Step 1: Prepare with SolarClean (ECS 101), rinse and dry.

Step 2: Apply SolarProtect (ECS 5003) according to the application instructions. It forms a clear, thin hydrophobic protective surface for solar panels and greenhouses. Use it as supplied without dilution.

Published planning coverage is approximately 2,000 ft² per gallon at a dry film thickness of 3 microns. Most applications require one coat. A full second coat is necessary only when site-specific environmental conditions call for additional protection; allow the first coat to cure before recoating.

Choose Better for: cleaning plus a longer-term protective coating. Continue inspection and cleaning after coating; choose Best to include the annual SolarClean and SolarRestore maintenance program.

Review SolarProtect technical and application information.

Best: SolarClean + SolarProtect + Annual Maintenance

Longer-Term Protection With Annual Care

Start with the Better system: clean with SolarClean (ECS 101), rinse and dry, then apply SolarProtect (ECS 5003) according to the product instructions.

Maintain annually: clean the coated surface with SolarClean, rinse and dry, then apply SolarRestore (ECS 5001) according to its application instructions to refresh the protective surface.

Choose Best for: the SolarClean and SolarProtect system with a planned annual SolarClean and SolarRestore maintenance program.

Continue routine inspections and cleaning as needed between annual maintenance visits. Follow each product’s preparation, application and curing instructions.

Application Notes

  • For SolarProtect (ECS 5003), coating within 24 hours after cleaning is recommended. A maximum of three days may be allowed if weather remains rain-free and panels stay clean; remove new dust, pollen or other deposits before application.
  • Rinse and allow surfaces to dry. If air drying, rinse water must be clean and mineral-free. Keep the prepared surface free from new oils, dirt, sap and debris.
  • SolarClean’s application instructions specify coating once the surface is dry and within 24 hours after cleaning. The conditional three-day window above is additional guidance for SolarProtect.
  • Follow the product-specific curing instructions. Our maintenance guidance recommends avoiding washing for 5 to 7 days after applying SolarProtect or SolarRestore.

*Over time, small amounts of surface wear can occur from weather and airborne debris. An annual cleaning with SolarClean and a light SolarRestore recoat will refresh the surface and maintain protection.

SolarProtect re-application is only required when the panel surfaces have visibly reduced hydrophobicity, or no longer feel slick to the touch, on over 25% of the applied surface.
