Solar Panel Coatings for Installers and Cleaning Contractors

Offer solar panel cleaning, protective coating and ongoing maintenance services with eCoat Solutions. Our SolarClean, SolarRestore and SolarProtect products support three service options, from cleaning plus SolarRestore protection to a SolarProtect coating with annual SolarClean and SolarRestore maintenance.

Compare the options below, review the application guidance, and tell us about your project so we can help you select a system and estimate material quantities.

Three Service Options for Your Customers

Good: SolarClean + SolarRestore

SolarClean (ECS 101) is a concentrated cleaner for routine service or preparation before coating. Mix 0.5 fluid ounce per gallon of clean water. Wash, rinse thoroughly and dry. If panels will air-dry, use clean, mineral-free rinse water. Once dry, apply SolarRestore (ECS 5001) according to its instructions for annual nanoceramic protection.

Better: SolarClean + SolarProtect

Clean with SolarClean (ECS 101), rinse thoroughly and dry. Then apply SolarProtect (ECS 5003) as supplied without dilution for longer-term nanoceramic protection. Follow the product-specific preparation, application and curing instructions.

Best: SolarClean + SolarProtect + Annual Maintenance

Start with SolarClean (ECS 101), rinse and dry, then apply SolarProtect (ECS 5003). Best adds annual cleaning with SolarClean followed by SolarRestore (ECS 5001) to refresh the protective surface. SolarProtect is a clear hydrophobic nanoceramic coating formulated for solar panels and greenhouses. Use it as supplied without dilution. It is designed to create a slick protective surface that supports easier cleaning and maintenance.

Most applications require one coat. A full second coat is necessary only when site-specific environmental conditions call for additional protection; allow the first coat to cure before applying it.

Plan Preparation, Application and Maintenance

Inspect the installation before quoting. Identify the panel model, existing surface treatment, contamination and access requirements. Review the panel manufacturer’s care and warranty requirements when considering a surface coating.

For SolarProtect, apply to a completely dry surface, preferably within 24 hours of cleaning. The window may extend to a maximum of three days if the weather stays rain-free and the panels remain clean. Remove new dust, pollen, sap or other deposits before coating.

Dry-to-touch and full cure are different stages. Schedule work around the applicable product instructions and site conditions. Continue inspection and cleaning after coating; include ongoing maintenance in the service plan.

Start With a Small Trial for Unfamiliar Methods

Before a large project or a new application method, use a small trial area to assess cleaning results, product consumption, coverage and coating uniformity. Record the area treated, material used, application method and weather conditions so quantities and procedures can be refined.

We have field experience with spray application. Drone application has not been tested. A drone or spray-only process should begin with a trial to determine whether cleaning and coating results are adequate or whether adjustments are needed.

Use overlapping passes to achieve the intended thin film without heavy buildup. Multiple spray passes are different from a full second coat. Excess material can leave deposits, streaking or curing problems.

Estimate Materials for the Actual Project

Use approximately 2,000 ft² per gallon at a dry film thickness of 3 microns as the published SolarProtect planning coverage. Actual use depends on the surface, application method and material losses. Include an appropriate allowance for wind, overspray, handling and repeat work based on the trial.

SolarClean is diluted separately at 0.5 fluid ounce per gallon of clean water. Cleaner solution, rinse water and undiluted sealer are separate quantities when planning equipment, crew time and material needs.

SolarProtect’s liquid is flammable; the cured coating is non-flammable. Review the SDS and application instructions before handling, spraying or planning equipment and work procedures.

Working on a Thermal-Management Project?

SolarSink is our separate heat-diffusion nanoceramic coating. It serves a different purpose from the SolarProtect cleaning and surface-protection system. Contact us to discuss the project, suitable surfaces and application requirements.
